Yes, I have genital herpes. I have had GH for about a decade.
I contracted it from the toilet of a public restroom in a Bart station in Oakland, Calif., USA. The previous occupant took a long time in the john and I was about to burst. They departed and crossed out of the station into a nearby depressed residential area. I was next in line and my need too urgent. I did not take minimal precautions.
My first outbreak occurred about 2-3 weeks later. I can't be more precise; it was many years ago.
I did not contract it through intercourse as, as of that date, I had not had sex with anyone in several years, due to medical issues.
Today I have a 'permanent' prescription for Valacyclovir. That is, I renew it with my primary from time to time; they never question my need for it. I take it only when needed, one capsule daily for three days, whenever I feel symptoms that I have learned signal a coming outbreak. As a result, I have had only two outbreaks, in my first year, and no eruptions since.
Did I ever follow the herpes suppression diet that I mention on this website? Yes, I did, the first year or so. Did I not have Valacyclovir, I would be on that diet 24/7. Originally, while the patent was still active, the cost of the drug was extremely high; only my insurance made it feasible for me. Nowadays, generics are available and so it should be more economical. However, for those without insurance, or not enough insurance, the diet is a must.
Have I pursued any of the clinical trials mentioned on this website? No. I have other medical conditions that are more life threatening. Herpes will not kill me. My partner is safe; my partner is still not infected after a decade. Curing this condition is a non-starter for me.
