In 1978, in an article published in the Dermatologica magazine, Dr. Christopher Kagan, et al, reported the results of a study involving 45 subjects with Herpes Simplex (cold sores). The abstract concluded that the amino acid Arginine enhances viral replication, while the amino acid Lysine was found to suppress replication of the virus.
An additional online source credits Dr. Kagan with completing an initial study of 10 subjects as early as 1970. Confirmation, however, could not be located. Dr. Kagan appears to be an active physician and researcher. No books were found authored by him.
